I will share updates on the trouble I am experiencing with this company so that you will have an opportunity to learn about the quality of service this company offers.
Current Situation Update
The company owes me about $2,000 for the damages the company caused to my car and my bed. About 4 months has passed, but nothing has been fixed. I am still sleeping on the floor.
Last time I talked with the company was when the manager told me that he was delivering my bed parts he damaged on August 9th, 2009. He did not show up at the promised time, and never explained why and has been ignoring all calls, voice messages, texts and email from me. This started right after I asked about their insurance company's information.
I know others have very positive reviews on him and that is why I chose him. Actually, he has been very good until he caused these damages. I learned that I should have been more careful about how the company behaves, when something unexpected happens.
Moving Summary
I asked two deliveries:
- 1st shipping out: Didn't show up for two days. I paid others to clean up the place but wasted the money.
- 1st shipping arrival: Didn't come on time, my car, bed and shelf were damaged. The quote from a autobody shop called Allston Collision is 1,450. The bed was $400.
- 2nd shipping: Didn't even respond to my message. The company didn't come and didn't assemble anything although I paid for the assembly. I wasted money again.
And the company said it would come to deliver replacements of the bed parts he damaged.
- He said he would delivery the parts he damaged. He never showed up on that day, and has been ignoring all calls and emails from me.
- About 4 months has passed. I have been emailing, calling and texting numerous times but nothing has been fixed.
Damages
1. Car
There are dents in front and back of the car. The front dent pushed down the car's sunroof with all mechanical parts. The damage happened because the manager decided to load my bed on the top of my car.
2. Bed
Also, he smashed my bed in front of me when he was moving out my bed from the car. The bed was already severely damaged anyways and I didn't really care about how he treated the bed though.
3. Shelf
Also, my shelf was damaged because he put it directly on the metal part of the car storage. He declined to fix it because his "insurance company will not pay for furniture made from this type of wood".
Detailed Updates
I asked J&S Transport to move my personal belongings and my car from California to Massachusetts. I asked him 2 moves -
- California to a moving stroage in Massachusetts (Packing, Loading & Disassembly)
- The moving storage to my new home (Unpacking & Assembly)
After confirming that the company is coming on May 1st, I booked a flight ticket to MA. But after I booked, it became very difficult to reach him. For example, my email sent on April 23rd did not get a reply until April 28th.
- April 30th, 4 PM (a day before the promised time)
He said he will not come on the next date. He said that I asked the pick up on 2nd before I booked. I thought that it was strange because he knew I asked to come on 1st well before 30th and he said "I will come, don't worry". But I had no choice.
- April 1st (The promised moving date)
He did not show up as he said on the day before.
- April 2nd (Next day)
He did not show up. He said that the traffic is bad, that it has been snowing heavily (it's in May), and some other things I don't remember. Since I already paid to clean up my place on 3rd, and made an appointment to see my landlord for their inspection, I was already in trouble.
I asked the company to come early morning, at least.
- April 3rd (2 days after the promised date)
I got a text message in the late morning, saying that he was leaving at that time. Now I knew he was going to say something like "traffic is bad again". He did. Clean up people came in and waited for J&S to come so that they can clean up. But they gave up and left, charging me for it. My landlord came in, and complained and said that they would come back on 4th to check the place.
J&S offered me to pay for packing done by another company. I did not care about who is going to pack and I said yes. Although I was paying anyways, I liked the fact that the company was at least trying to address the problem.
The company finally arrived and started to load, but I needed to leave to the airport. I asked him to clean up the floor at least. The loading seemed smooth.
- May 5th.
He said he would come at 6 am. But again, he did not show up at 6. He showed up late afternoon. I knew this would happen and I decided not to complain about it.
But I saw him putting my bed on my car. I asked to dissassemble the bed but I guess he didn't want to do take time. Of course both of the bed and my car were damaged. The bed looked terrible, and the car was damaged.
I was supposed to pay $200 at the pick up, but he agreed that I wouldn't pay as he owed me significantly more at that time.
- After May 5th to August 5th
I called, texted, emailed him so many times. At least I texted him more than 30 times. But nothing has happened.
- August 5th
I was able to talk to him on the phone. He sounded like he wanted to hang up as soon as possible. He said that he would come at 6pm of August 9th to deliver the bed parts he damaged and handed up.
- August 9th
Actually, I was not expecting him to show up. I think he would say that the traffic is bad, and he would say there was car accident or something. But he just texted me "phone problem" and didn't show up and ignored my calls, texts, and email ever since. That was the last communication I had with him. I knew that, his phone, his mate's phone, his PC, and all phones around him would not be out of order at the same time, but I was expecting that this was going to happen, because on August 5th, I asked him about his insurance company's information. If he is fully insured as he claims, this would have been taken care of already.
- August 13th
Fortunatelly, my company paid for the move. And my company decided to take care of this issue instead of me, and one of the law firms my company uses would work us with fixed monthly fee and we can use the firm to sue him for the damages he has caused and services the company did not deliver.
- August 23rd
My company has been talking with the company. Bed parts haven't been delivered. Car is still damaged.
